“The USADA can confirm that Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao have agreed to take part in the USADA testing program for their professional boxing fight scheduled for Saturday, May 2 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Both fighters have agreed to the rules established under the World Anti-Doping Code, the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List, and the USADA Protocol for Olympic and Paralympic Movement Testing,” the USADA said in a press statement.This means the agency will be able to conduct any amount of unannounced in- and out-of-competition blood and urine tests between now and the fight.While pride is likely enough to keep both Mayweather and Pacquiao straight, if they need one more reason to follow the agreed-upon rules, it’s the agreed-upon consequences: If either fighter fails a test it will result in a four-year ban from competition, the Los Angeles Times reports. “It’s a strong statement of the importance of clean and safe competition to have these two fighters voluntarily agree to have a WADA level anti-doping program implemented for this fight,” USADA CEO Travis Tygart said. “We commend them for their stand for clean sport and the message it sends to all those who want to compete clean at the highest levels of all sport.”It’s not a huge surprise that Mayweather signed on to the agreement. The 38-year-old suggested a blood-testing program in 2010 before his May fight with Shane Mosley. Pacquiao, however, has resisted blood-testing before. In fact, it was the 36-year-old boxer’s refusal to submit to blood screening within 30 days of a fight that derailed a proposed bout between Mayweather and Pacquiao in 2009. In response, Mayweather accused Pacquiao of using performance-enhancing drugs, which Pacquiao later sued over. They settled for $5 million, SportingNews reminds.

Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum wants to finally put those rumors to rest with the new agreement.“This testing is cosmetic in the sense that it shuts up anyone making false accusations,” Arum told the L.A. Times. “I believe a lot of this that was spread around [about Pacquiao's reluctance to test] was unfortunate and nonsensical. There’s not any issue with Manny or Floyd. They aren’t taking performance-enhancing drugs.”
